"Tourism is recognised as an effective tool in the reduction of poverty. The many different cultures living in the Pacific islands (Fiji, Vanuatu), where tourism represents up to 90% of the national income, rely on tourism activity but are also the first victims of the ensuing environmental degradation. This project is addressed to both environmentally responsible tourists, and local people living in these tourism areas, towards a more harmonious exchange between cultures. These boats will be mobile hotels for tourists, so they can discover and visit different islands, preserving coastal landscapes. Locals will also be able to use them as taxis between islands
and to transport medicines and food. The deck of the boat becomes a place of communication and exchange between locals and tourists." |
